Mr. Chopra is honored to have received the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal which was created in 2002 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the ascension of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to the throne. The Medal was awarded to Canadians who made outstanding and exemplary contributions to their communities or to Canada as a whole. It was presented to him by the Honourable Ron Duhamel, the federal minister from Manitoba.
In 2012, he was presented with Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee. Created in 2012 to mark the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal was a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty for her service to this country. At the same time, this commemorative medal served to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.
Hindu Society Trustee Receives Diamond Jubilee Medal
Mr. Ashok Chopra, a member of the Hindu Society of Manitoba’s board of trustees and regional vice president for the Saskatchewan and Manitoba National Indo-Canadian Council, was honoured with a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal on Nov. 1 at the Legislative Building.
Chopra received the medal from MLA Bidhu Jha, who had nominated him for the medal, and Premier Greg Selinger. “I take great pride in giving Diamond Jubilee Medals to these individuals who are part of new Canadian mosiac bringing humanity and dedication to serve all human as taught by Vedas “Survey Bhawantu Sukhinah” or “Surb da bhala” recited daily in our prayers,” Jha said.
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne.
“Mr. Chopra is known to me since past 30 years and has provided his tireless services to all in need,” Jha said in a nomination letter. He added that Chopra is a “passionate humanitarian” who has been serving several ethnic groups in Manitoba, including the aboriginal community. “Mr. Chopra has been supporting the initiatives undertaken by NGOs and in particular by the Right Hon. Paul Martin, ex-Prime Minister of Canada.
Mr. Chopra is president of Manitoba Indo Canadian Hotels and Restaurant Association, and president NICC.
His most recent recognition was in 2022 where he received the Queen Platinum Jubliee medal on November 28, 2022. The Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal (Manitoba), marks the 70th anniversary of Her Late Majesty’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. It was nominated by honorable Health Minister of Manitoba, Audrey Gordon, MLA for Southdale. There are three minimum criteria for the medal recipients: be a resident of Manitoba or have a link to Manitoba at the time of the grant of the medal; have made a contribution to Canada, Manitoba, or to a particular region or community; and be alive on 6 February 2022.
Mr. Chopra has committed the rest of his life to work for others in need especially the homeless, those struggling with mental health, and unprivileged children.

As a resident of Manitoba for 50 years, I have had opportunity to meet many distinguished people from Indo-Canadian communities. Mr. Ashok Chopra as stated by me while honoring him with Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations, I reiterate the sentiments of Ashok Chopra as one of the most outstanding persons, who have done so much for less fortunate citizens of our society.
I state with pride that Mr. Chopra is a Jewel in the crown, that is rare and precious. It is difficult to express in simple words of how great charactered and selfless provider of genuine help to the needy , Ashok Chopra has been. I feel fortunate to have his friendship,
